John Collins is now set to handle the business side of the team's operations.

This could be interesting. Not quite sure of the overall impacts to the team.

Regarding this years UFA class. It is a very thin UFA class with maybe two or three impact players. That being said, too me this is a setup for some massive over payment of players. The one guy I like is Tyler Bertuzzi. I think he could be an upgrade to the top 6, maybe...maybe the top 3. If he is available I would go hard after him.

Otherwise, the only true way this team gets better is via trade. There are good names out looking to move. a mid-level shake up to the core might be what the doctor ordered.

I feel like "maybe it's a sign and trade?" is part of the coping process fans go through when their team re-signs a player they don't like, while in reality sign and trades are awfully rare. Interesting to see an actual, possible sign and trade in the wild here.

Yeah seems like the only time that ever really happens is post-season (which is effectively where we are, even though not technically), and pre-UFA when a team wants to get that 8th year.

Damon Severson's contract is a measuring stick to what Mayfield could get. You just have to move on. Granted he is two years younger than Mayfield but in a very thin market. Numbers and desperation will jump quickly.

He is an early morning Saturday bomb. Would you offer up Matt Barzal to Senators for Brady Tkachuk? Barzal alone probably does not get it done so who else would you include.

The end result would be...

Tkachuk Horvat Walhstrom
Lee Nelson Palmieri
Pariese JGP Fasching

That is a nice top 9.

If not Tkachuk, Kyle O'Connor from WPG.

Sure you would but that’s exactly why both teams wouldn’t take Barzal for either.

Barzal would not get you either of those players alone. You would have to add a piece or two.

My question is would you and what would it take on the part of the Islanders.

That’s putting all of our eggs in the Bo Horvat basket which I’m not ready to do just yet. Doesn’t really matter there is next to a zero % chance Barzal gets traded unless something goes horribly wrong with his relationship with the team. Plus with his contract, current production, and just coming off an injury which so far seems to be hampering his play his value is maybe lower then it’s ever been. I’m sure he’ll bounce back from his injury and I’m hoping he finds another gear and matures a bit. Either way for the reasons I mentioned I highly doubt he’s going anywhere.

Agree on Mayfield Ben, however I don’t agree with Engvall.
Without the Engvall, Nelson, Palms ( Ladd 2.0 ) line the Isles don’t make the PO’s.
That line was by far the Isles best line down the stretch and in the PO’s.

So I was going to post this in the Florida blog, but decided that the only thing it would do is bring out more idiots.

My and friend (both 20), hockey players and fans of the game. Thought it would be a cool life experience to fly down to Florida, watch the game, crash at my cousins houses and fly back home this morning.

Everything was great until the end of the game when fights broke out everywhere. My sons friend gets sucker punched for wearing a Vegas jersey, now he with my son who is wearing a Cats jersey. Turns out that the guy who punched him is an off-duty cop. By the way my cousin is a cop in Florida, turns out a few security guards new him and help my son and his friend.

Now before you say, well maybe the boys chirped something and set the guy off. Not the case, they were just trying to grab an uber as this melee ensured.

It is just bullsh!t that people buy a ticket and they feel entitled act anyway they want. Even though we have the guys name and my cousin said he would look into it and oh boy the my son friend, who father is a cop will look into it. Nothing will come about of it.

It is a shame that the actions of others over shadows what could have been a really cool experience.

Still no reason to assault anyone. Guy should be charged and pay for his (probably drunken)
actions. Especially if he’s a cop. Unfortunately no one is being charged for anything these days.
PS. You may have gotten the number of games right

Ethan Sears is a little late. I saw that story last week. It may hold water but pushing your top players to the max is part of the reason they get what they get.

Friedman also mentioned last week that the Flyers are aggressively shopping defenseman Tony DeAngelo.

Is it worth taking a flyer on this guy for a year? Or is his off ice antics not worth the it?

There's no shot lameriello takes a chance on him. Goes against any kind of player Lou has coveted in the past. If it were me I would but I highly doubt Lameriello does.

Meh kind of out of character for Lou to say something like this imo. I expect a MUCH better season for Horvat this year but that doesn’t change he’s got a lot of proving to do.
